The design I chose to be my final design was number *two. The idea of the top covering the sides, the simpleness of it. My original thoughts for this project was to not fully or massively change the style of the laptop, but change only a few ares. The shape of the laptop is recognisable, sold but with subtle differences. There is no need to make the laptop so elaborate for it to lose its ability to function the best it can. The "letters" on the the cover give that fun, fresh and different taste to the idea, also when the laptop is shut, and in a bag it just looks like letters and papers, this was an area I wanted to achieve as it gives a sense of security for the owner. The pale background gives a gentle feel, less harsh of the cold greys/blacks and silvers of laptops around. The covering of the sides gives it a small change yet looks quirky. And as the 1950's era was a big theme for this, the quirkiness works well. As for the buttons, (even though not portrayed to their in the sketches) are more curves, better lettering and easier for the user to use. The inspiration was that of the typewriting keys on a standard typewriter. Again only a subtle change, yet one that makes it unique.

Top idea *THREE
Excusing the poor quality of this image (due to using an incredibly old scanner) this idea has potential. The thought of having a screen that twists around makes giving presentations, showing work, watching movies ect so much more easy. It gives the ability to still use and access the laptop but also able to show work seems to be an interesting idea. However does the market for this stand strong?
Top idea *TWO
The simple design shown here I am drawn to, the laptop is so functional, and for years has kept the same shape. so introducing a new shape would be difficult. Here the sides cover the sides of the laptop, where usually the USB ports, CD import or the charger plug get clogged up with dirt, dust and general use. Thus making it difficult to clean and makes the laptop look untidy and un loved. Whereas with this design it clears those problems simply by covering them. Also it gives slight security as when the laptop is placed in a bag, or on a table it covers the tell tale signs of a laptop.
Top idea *One
This design I am interested in as the idea is fresh. On the market there is either a laptop, or a table. Here those ideas have been formed into two, it can be used as a laptop, or as a table. The idea of having the keys and mousepad as a touch screen is interesting and something that is in development. As seen with the IPAD, it has yet to be converted on to a laptop design.

Even more ideas
The designs shown here are all rough ideas of laptops, exploring different shapes, different ways to use the laptop and if anything exciting could be done to an ordinary laptop. Some designs will be put in for the final 3.
